Delay Estimation for Ranging and Localization Using Multiband Channel State Information

In wireless networks, an essential step for precise range-based localization is the high-resolution estimation of multipath channel delays. The resolution traditional delay algorithms inversely proportional to bandwidth training signals used probing. Considering that typical have limited bandwidth, using these often leads poor performance. To mitigate constraints, we exploit multiband and carrier frequency switching capabilities transceivers propose acquire state information (CSI) in multiple bands spread over a large aperture. data model acquired measurements has shift-invariance structure, use this property develop algorithm. We derive Cramér-Rao Bound (CRB) perform numerical simulations algorithm system parameters emerging IEEE 802.11be standard. Simulations show asymptotically efficient converges CRB. validate modeling assumptions, test real indoor scenarios. From results, it seen delays (ranges) estimated from CSI with total 320 MHz average RMSE less than 0.3 ns (10 cm) 90% cases.
